Five useful Android applications
Posted March 22nd, 2011 by adminThough the App Store is leading the charts in smartphone application downloads, the Android Market is placed right behind it and is the only serious rival facing Apple right now. Before going and having fun searching applications in the Android Market, let me review five applications I am using on my Android device.
Barcode Scanner
You have probably heard of it before. If you go shopping and need reviews or opinions about a product, you would normally have to Google it. Don’t! With this application you can just scan the code and will immediately get a bunch of results regarding the respective product. The barcode is easy to scan with the camera, and the whole process shouldn’t take more than 10-15 seconds. Way faster than searching on Google, right?
Places Directory
With this free Android application you will never get lost. Thanks to GPS technology you can search any place you wish to visit using this application. It can be a hotel, retail location, theatre, restaurant or stadium, the Places Directory has it already covered. Not only you can find the location, but from the application you can also dial the place or visit its web page.
Amazon Kindle
Since released by Amazon.com, the Kindle became one of the most interesting devices on the market. You can use it for reading e-books while on the go from your smartphone instead of using the tablet. Sure, reading on a phone is not as enjoyable as on very small screens, but if you have some free minutes, go on and read a few pages with this Android app. It is a free app and who knows, you might start to like it.
Pandora
This is available on iPhone as well as Android. This application works as a radio station streamer. You can search for an artist or a song and Pandora will create a running playlist based on your information. The application is free, and though there may be some ads interfering between the songs, you might find them useful.
Shazam
Have you ever heard a track being played on the radio that you liked but didn’t know who it was or the title of the track? With Shazam, which is a completely free Android app, you won’t have this problem anymore. Just hit the start record button, let the song play for around 15 seconds and then let the application search in its database. The application has a success rate of 80%, so in most of the cases you will find the name and singer of the track.
There are hundreds of thousands of apps in the Android Market, so my review does little more than introduce you to five that I find useful. However, I believe it’s virtually impossible not to find some cool applications for your Android device in the Market, however be prepared to pay for some of them.
