Golfing in Iceland

Golfing in any area can be a challenge when you’re on vacation.  The diversity of terrain and weather can engage any golfer that enjoys the challenge of a new course.  Golfing in Iceland is an incredible experience.  For one, the location.  This island found in the Northern Atlantic Ocean.  Due to the North Atlantic current, Iceland is temperate in climate and is full of diverse terrain and vegetation similar to that of the Alaskan Peninsula.  During the summer months, Iceland can get between sixty and seventy degrees farenheight.  Summer also lends itself to midnight golf, since the island is so far north.  Daylight lasts almost around the clock.

If you choose to golf in Iceland, some things to remember are that this is an island and as any island, the greens will flow toward the water. There are 65 golf courses in Iceland and many of them are near the coast.  There are some that are further inland and pose a completely different view than those near the ocean.  Like most island golfing, Iceland poses some interesting hazards.  Of course, there are the typical water and sand, but then you have lava fields.  Don’t get caught in one of these, just let your ball go and drop.  Hardened lava can easily wreck your club.

To Golf Iceland, you don’t necessarily need to be a fantastic golfer.  You just need to enjoy golf.  There are a variety of courses that will challenge you.  There are links courses and courses that may remind you of the moorlands.  Other courses require creative play as the fairways lay along lava and heather lined boundaries. Golf Iceland and you will soon find that even in this place where one may not imagine such gorgeous settings with such diversity, it is a surprising and pleasant experience.

Getting to Iceland may not be as easy to get to as say, the South Pacific, but it is possible and airlines do travel regularly to this island from major cities all over Europe and the United States. Golf Iceland and you will have some fantasitc golf stories to tell your buddies and eventually your grandkids.
