You need to keep your building site secure and dry when when building a new family home
Posted October 23rd, 2008 by adminThe self build project I have been working on and had to make sure I could put away my tools from thieves. found a business offering containers for sale and contacted them|I contacted a business providing containers for sale} and they advised me on one of their line which was site accommodation, the on site accommodation gave me a place to do office work and have breaks but also provided me somewhere to store my gear at the close of the day. The Containers had the excellent reputation of never having been broken into.
Needing a cost effective way of keeping the site dry when I constructed the structure because I intended constructing it by hand in cob and straw bale. I spoke to a United Kingdom marquee manufacturer about using one of their marquees as temporary storage over the base and first floor and they were very informative giving me specs for the appropriate storage. I also looked at a separate temporary warehouse marquee for the preparation area and storage of the bales and cob. The Canopy would provide you with enough protection for the initial stage of the build including footings and lower walls and enable me to work in any weather.
I love oak so wanted to install oak beams within the building, just because I really like the colour, texture and resilience of oak. I found a timber supplier that had a lot of experience in oak and other timbers and they guided me on the most appropriate oak beams to select and cut them to size for me. I went back to them again for the oak flooring which I cant tell you how brilliant it looked. I used a decent wax on the oak flooring which enhanced the wood grain amazingly.
